The Incheon Grand Bridge, a U.S. $1.4-billion mega project that took more than four years to complete, opened with South Korea President Lee Myung-bak in attendance for the momentous occasion. The celebrations included a 42.195km marathon across the bridge with hundreds of thousands of athletes participating in the run.
The Incheon Grand Bridge, the world’s seventh longest measuring at 21.38KM, directly connects the Incheon International Airport to Songdo International Business District (IBD), reducing travel time to approximately a 15 minute drive. This ease of travel will further attract foreign businesses and tourists to the strategically located Songdo IBD.
“A fine example of Korea’s engineering expertise, the bridge will serve as one of the nation’s new symbols to the world,” stated Incheon Mayor Ahn Sang-soo.
“The completion of the Incheon Grand Bridge goes beyond national pride and accomplishment,” says Gale International Chairman Stan Gale. “The Incheon-Songdo Aerotropolis is only three and a half hours flying time from a third of the world’s population and gives unparalled access to key markets in China, Japan and Russia. The bridge positions South Korea and Songdo IBD as the commercial epicenter of Northeast Asia.”
The United Kingdom’s Construction News selected the Grand Bridge as one of the world’s 10 construction wonders and it has attracted worldwide attention, making the bridge a landmark for Incheon, South Korea, and all of Asia.
