Philippines tourism project attracts investment
3 April 2008

Star Cruises and Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI) have revealed plans to develop a US$1 bil integrated resort in the Manila Bay reclamation area.

The plans include various leisure facilities such as theme parks, cultural centers, a casino and hotels. The development will take centre stage in the multi-billion dollar Bagong Nayong Pilipino Manila Bay Integrated City Project (BNP-IC), an integrated tourism zone.

The Philippine Amusement & Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) is hoping to attract US$4 bil in foreign and local investment for the project, which was conceived to sustain the growth of the tourism industry in the country.

Star Cruises is an affiliate of Malaysian conglomerate Genting Group, which is currently developing SG$5 bil "Resorts World at Sentosa" on a 49-hectare integrated resort at Singapore's Sentosa Island.

The JVP proposes building hotels with a minimum of 1,000 rooms spread out over several phases of development.
